Bribie
Island is a haven for windsurfing or catamaran sailing with both the
Pumicestone Passage and the open waters off Woorim Beach. Woorim is
Brisbane's closest patrolled surf beach, the venue for regular surf
carnivals and a popular spot for swimmers and board riders.
Accredited Surf School for those budding surf champions is available - bookings are essential.
Water
skiing and Jet skiing are other popular pastimes in the calmer
waters of the Passage with other aquatic activities such as kayaking,
BBQ Boats, and other boats available for hire.
Spinnaker Sound
Marina is adjacent to the mainland approach of the Bribie Bridge and
features a protected marina harbour brimming with pleasure craft set
amidst picturesque garden surrounding which overlook Pumicestone
Passage. The marina provides a large range of services for the boat
enthusiast and the marina has a fully licensed restaurant.
The
Island even has its own modern aquatic leisure complex with heated
swimming, leisure and hydrotherapy pools open all year round.
Scuba
Diving is extremely popular in the Moreton Bay, Flinders Reef area. The
diving in many cases better than in the tropical waters further north
as the cooler conditions attract different fish on the various coral
reefs.
 Bribie Island is truly a
fisherman's paradise. Tailor, bream, whiting, mackerel and cod are frequently caught in and around the Island and Pumicestone Passage, with mud crabs and sands crabs also there for the taking.
For
the fisherman wishing to venture further afield, sweetlip, pearl
perch, parrot and snapper abound among the reefs off the Island. Surf
fishing is popular at Skirmish Point and along the wide expanse of the
ocean beach.
Moreton Bay has emerged in recent years as one of
the great game fishing centres and is only a short cruise by higher
powered boats from Bribie Island. World game fishing records are
regularly broken with catches of yellowfin tuna, black marlin, sailfish
and kingfish.
